What you will finish with
One workspace-scoped Anthropic API key
The key connects Lakeview Lister to your Claude API credit balance and workspace usage.
In repeated Lakeview Lister testing, Claude produced slower runs, overload failures, placeholder or incorrect listing data, malformed descriptions, and unreliable item specifics. ChatGPT is our preferred starting point and Gemini is our recommended lower-cost alternative. If you use Claude, review the identity, category, condition, description, and every item specific before saving or publishing.
Before you start
Use Anthropic Console API billing.
- An email address or supported sign-in for an Anthropic Console account.
- A payment method for prepaid Claude API usage credits.
- Lakeview Lister installed so you can test the key before closing the creation flow.
Create the developer key and buy API usage credits at platform.claude.com . A paid plan for chatting with Claude does not fund API requests.
Create or choose the account
Open Anthropic Console.
- Sign in to Anthropic Console.
Open the official Claude Platform and create an account if needed.
- Confirm the correct organization.
If you belong to multiple organizations, choose the one that should own Lakeview Lister’s key and pay for its API usage.
- Choose a workspace.
The Default workspace works. A dedicated Lakeview Lister workspace gives you clearer usage and cost reporting without mixing this key with other applications.
Anthropic API keys are scoped to a workspace. Creating a separate workspace makes it easier to revoke access or review Lakeview Lister’s costs later.
Prepare for API requests
Buy Claude API usage credits.
- Open Billing settings.
Go to Settings › Billing in Anthropic Console.
- Add payment details.
Enter the billing information requested for the organization that will own the key.
- Purchase a small starting credit balance.
Anthropic’s API uses prepaid usage credits. Choose an amount appropriate for testing and your initial listing volume.
- Decide whether to enable auto-reload.
Auto-reload can prevent interruptions when the balance gets low. If you enable it, set a refill amount and monthly ceiling you are comfortable with.
Anthropic documents API credits as prepaid, non-refundable, and expiring one year after purchase. Start small and monitor usage before buying a large balance.
Through August 31, 2026, Anthropic lists Claude Sonnet 5 at $2.00 per 1 million input tokens and $10.00 per 1 million output tokens; standard pricing becomes $3.00 and $15.00 on September 1. Claude Haiku 4.5 is $0.50 per 1 million input tokens and $2.50 per 1 million output tokens. Prompt caching is priced separately. Lakeview Lister estimates cost from the usage Anthropic reports; your Anthropic account remains the source of truth for charges. Review Anthropic’s current pricing before funding the account.
Generate the credential
Create a dedicated API key.
- Open API Keys.
Go to Settings › API Keys .
- Select Create Key.
Name it Lakeview Lister and assign it to the Default workspace or the dedicated workspace you prepared.
- Choose an expiration.
Select a duration you can maintain. A shorter expiration improves security but requires timely rotation; Never avoids an unexpected expiration but should be used only when the key is carefully protected.
- Create and copy the key.
Copy the complete secret while it is displayed. The full value will not be shown again after you close the dialog.
Do not email it, paste it into chat, or include it in a screenshot. Revoke it immediately if it may have been exposed.
Return to the app
Add, test, and save the key.
- Open your Profile.
Under Tools, select Profile, then expand AI Providers.
- Expand Claude.
The provider card is named Claude in Lakeview Lister.
- Paste the new key into Anthropic API Key.
Paste only the complete key, without quotation marks or spaces before or after it.
- Select Test Key.
Wait for Lakeview Lister to confirm that Anthropic accepted the credential.
- Choose Claude only if you intentionally want to evaluate it.
You can save and test the key without making Claude your active provider. We currently recommend ChatGPT or Gemini for normal Draft Builder use.
- Select Save Profile.
Lakeview Lister saves the credential securely on your computer.
Lakeview Lister uses Claude Sonnet 5 for Draft Builder and standard Fast ID runs, with Claude Haiku 4.5 for Fast ID Economy. The app supplies the model and service connection settings; you do not enter a model or URL.
Test Key succeeds and, after you save the profile, the Claude card shows Key saved or Selected when it is the default provider for runs.
Troubleshooting
Check expiration, workspace, and credits.
Anthropic returns 401 or says the key is invalid.
Confirm the key has not expired or been revoked. Recopy it without spaces, or create a replacement from the intended workspace.
The account has a paid Claude plan but API requests fail.
Open Anthropic Console Billing and buy API usage credits. Claude chat plan billing does not provide an API balance.
The Console balance is empty.
Purchase usage credits or review a failed auto-reload payment. Test the key again after the API balance updates.
The key exists in the wrong workspace.
Create a new key inside the workspace that should own Lakeview Lister usage, then update and retest the app.
Test Key says a required Claude model is unavailable.
Confirm the workspace has an active API credit balance and access to both claude-sonnet-5 and claude-haiku-4-5-20251001. Lakeview Lister supplies those model IDs automatically.
The key may have been exposed.
Revoke it immediately in Anthropic Console, create a replacement, and update Lakeview Lister.
