Before you start

Check what you need.

  • An account with DeepSeek’s developer API service.
  • Permission to create API keys and manage API usage for that account or workspace.
  • Lakeview Lister installed so you can enter and test the key.
01

Developer account

Open the DeepSeek API console.

  1. Open DeepSeek Platform

Go to platform.deepseek.com ↗ and create or sign in to a developer account.

  2. Use the API platform

The API Keys and Top up controls are in DeepSeek Platform; a consumer chat sign-in by itself does not supply a key.

02

Prepare API usage

Check your API balance.

  1. Review the balance

Check the API balance in DeepSeek Platform before you run Draft Builder.

  2. Top up if needed

Use the platform’s Top up control when the balance is insufficient for paid API requests. Review its current prices and limits.

A valid key can still run out of balance.

DeepSeek documents HTTP 402 as an insufficient-balance response. If key testing succeeds but a draft fails, check the platform balance.

03

Generate the credential

Create and copy the API key.

  1. Open API Keys

Go to the official DeepSeek API Keys page ↗.

  2. Create a key

Create a dedicated key for Lakeview Lister and copy the complete value.

Keep the key private.

If it is exposed, revoke it in the provider console and create a replacement. Do not send it to support.

04

Return to Lakeview Lister

Add and test the key.

  1. Open Profile

In Lakeview Lister, open Tools → Profile → AI Providers.

  2. Add the provider

Select Add provider, choose DeepSeek, and expand its card under Your providers.

  3. Enter DeepSeek API Key

Paste the complete API key into this field without spaces or quotation marks.

  4. Test and save

Select Test Key, then Save Profile. Choose the provider as your default if you want future runs to start with it.

If a request fails

Check the account and key.

The API returns 402.

DeepSeek identifies this as insufficient balance. Add funds under Top up, then retry the draft.

The app rejects the key.

Confirm you copied a Platform API key, not a chat credential; remove any leading or trailing spaces.

Requests are limited.

Review DeepSeek Platform’s current rate limits and account status.
