One xAI API key
Use this developer key for Grok requests made by Lakeview Lister.
Before you start
Check what you need.
- An account with xAI’s developer API service.
- Permission to create API keys and manage API usage for that account or workspace.
- Lakeview Lister installed so you can enter and test the key.
Developer account
Open the xAI API console.
- Open the xAI Console
Go to console.x.ai ↗ and sign in or create an account.
- Choose the right team
Use the team that will own the API key and the spending for Lakeview Lister.
Prepare API usage
Check your team’s API credits.
- Review API spend management
Open Billing in the xAI Console and check the team’s available prepaid API credits and spending controls.
- Add credits if needed
Use the console’s API spend management to purchase credits for paid requests. Check the current pricing and limits before starting a large batch.
The API key comes from the xAI developer console. Access to Grok in another product does not replace an API key in Lakeview Lister.
Generate the credential
Create and copy the API key.
- Open API Keys
Go to the xAI Console API Keys page ↗, choosing your team if prompted.
- Create a key
Create a key for Lakeview Lister and review any access or permission settings shown by the console.
- Copy the complete key
You will paste it into Lakeview Lister in the next step.
If it is exposed, revoke it in the provider console and create a replacement. Do not send it to support.
Return to Lakeview Lister
Add and test the key.
- Open Profile
In Lakeview Lister, open Tools → Profile → AI Providers.
- Add the provider
Select Add provider, choose xAI, and expand its card under Your providers.
- Enter Grok API Key
Paste the complete API key into this field without spaces or quotation marks.
- Test and save
Select Test Key, then Save Profile. Choose the provider as your default if you want future runs to start with it.
If a request fails
Check the account and key.
The API reports insufficient credits.
Check Billing → API spend management for the team that owns the key and add prepaid credits if needed.
The key is rejected.
Confirm that it was created in console.x.ai for the selected team, then copy it again without spaces or quotation marks.
A Grok model is unavailable.
Check the team’s model access and current xAI API availability in the console.
